Favorite Mother-Daughter Shows/Movies

It’s been a while since I’ve done a favorites list so in honor of one of my favorite people (my mama) and Mother’s Day, here are some of my mother-daughter favorites.

Gilmore Girls

My favorite TV show of all time. I can’t even tell you how many times I have watched it. It’s three generations of women with very different lives, very different pasts, and very different relationships.

Freaky Friday

It’s a movie about a struggling mom and daughter who end up switching bodies (and lives) and have to figure out their issues if they ever want to be in their own body again, what’s not to love?

Steel Magnolias

This movie has such a theme of motherhood outside of biological motherhood. Women are important no matter if you’re a mother or not, we’re all family and we all go through hardships. This is a beautiful movie and one of my favorite plays.

Hairspray

Moms teach their daughters a lot, but daughters can teach their mothers too. I love their growth in this movie as individuals and their mother-daughter relationship.

Brave

Maybe we should remember to love our family for who they are and work out our problems together before doing something rash, like making a wish that could change our lives forever.

Parenthood

I mean, the name is Parenthood, there are all kinds of family relationships in this show, but as a mother and a daughter, the mother-daughter relationships resonate with me the most.

Mother’s Day can be hard for a lot of people, but I just want to remind everyone that there is not just one way to be a mother. Mother’s come in all shapes and sizes. Just because someone might not fit your definition of “mother” doesn’t mean they don’t fit theirs. Happy Mother’s Day and I hope you find time to enjoy a new show or movie from this list!
